Southside School District No. 42 Calendar 2026-2027

Southside School District No. 42 has maintained an independent rural school south of Shelton since 1903. About two hundred students now attend the single K–7 campus. Children move through K–2, grades three and four, and grades five through seven within one institution, and some local families have sent several generations through the same halls.

The small age range supports relationships that cross classroom boundaries. Older students have read with kindergarteners and first-graders, helped in younger classrooms and taken responsibility for shared spaces such as the library. Art, music, after-school activities and project-based science depend partly on local levy support, while the campus also serves community events and emergency-housing purposes. Southside’s current strategic plan calls for weekly art, music, library and STEAM participation across every grade by September 2027; that expansion remains a dated goal, not a completed program.

After seventh grade, students enter Shelton’s larger secondary system. The move brings new transportation, schedules, activities and course-planning structures while younger siblings remain at Southside. A child can spend the first eight school years in a community where nearly everyone shares one campus, then make an unusually early cross-district transition for eighth grade and beyond.
