Yelm Community Schools Calendar 2026-2027

Yelm Community Schools serves the City of Yelm and surrounding communities near the Nisqually Reservation and Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Six K–5 elementary schools feed Yelm or Ridgeline middle school, and both routes meet at Yelm High School. Yelm Extension School provides an alternative setting, while the common high school creates one districtwide destination for a system serving more than five thousand students.

Military mobility shapes school support. The district employs two Military and Family Life Counselors who help students and parents with school adjustment, deployment, separation and reunion. At Southworth Elementary, active-duty military families account for about thirty percent of enrollment. A child can arrive during the school year, enter a neighborhood elementary community and later join peers from both middle-school routes at Yelm High.

The district’s relationship with the Nisqually Tribe forms another continuing line. Native American Education begins with a kindergarten-to-graduation plan and works with Native families and the Tribe on belonging, cultural identity, academic progress and college or career preparation. Southworth students also participate in a monthly Nisqually language program.

At Yelm High, one comprehensive campus supports career pathways in agriculture, business and marketing, health sciences, human services and skilled technical fields. Industry certifications, college credit and work-based learning let military-connected, Native and longtime local students build distinct postsecondary plans within one Yelm high-school community.
