Wellpinit School District Calendar 2027-2028

Salish language enters Wellpinit classrooms through daily greetings, songs, stories and conversation as well as formal lessons. Students study Spokane history and take part in drumming, dancing, crafting and beading, with participation and performance used to demonstrate growth. On the Spokane Indian Reservation, language and culture are lived parts of the school day.

The district operates local K–12 schools, with elementary students in a separate building near the middle- and high-school campus. Families, tribal departments and community knowledge holders contribute to a system whose educational authority is closely tied to Spokane identity. The Native Youth Community Project invites community members to mentor, share stories or activities, and provide another positive adult presence in school.

Wellpinit also extends beyond the immediate reservation setting. Alliance Education reaches students outside the local boundary, and Open Doors supports diploma or GED reengagement at Wellpinit and partner Job Corps locations. These programs change place and schedule while remaining under one district.

Current secondary offerings include construction, business communication and marketing, health science, anatomy and physiology, with career development connected to tribal enterprises and regional work. Students can move from everyday Salish language and Spokane cultural learning into technical, business or health pathways without separating community identity from preparation for adult life.
