Washougal School District Calendar 2026-2027

Washougal serves a Columbia River community where the western edge of the Gorge meets the Vancouver metropolitan area. Neighborhood elementary schools lead to Canyon Creek or Jemtegaard Middle School and then Washougal High School, drawing together town neighborhoods, rural roads and newer residential areas. Ordinary school life is highly public: Washougal Youth Arts Month fills March with student galleries, band and choir concerts, drama and library events through a partnership among the district, the city, the schools foundation and the local arts community.

A districtwide birdhouse project shows how those schools can work across age levels. High-school woods technology students prepared kits, middle-school students mentored fourth-graders, and elementary classes combined local bird research with measurement, area and perimeter. Students took the finished houses home and continued recording which species used them. The project connected classroom science and mathematics with the birds children notice along the Washougal River and around their own neighborhoods.

Hathaway Elementary also houses a Spanish-English dual-language pathway serving kindergarten through fifth grade in 2026–27, with district transportation and a lottery when applications exceed space. Washougal Learning Academy expanded to K–12 in 2025–26, providing online curriculum and individual teacher support. These choices sit beside a neighborhood system whose arts, technical classrooms and cross-grade projects already connect students across the district.
