White Salmon Valley School District Calendar 2026-2027

White Salmon Valley School District serves White Salmon, Bingen, Husum, Underwood, Snowden and surrounding Columbia River Gorge communities. The current school path has four districtwide stages: Hulan L. Whitson Elementary serves kindergarten through third grade, Wallace & Priscilla Stevenson Intermediate takes grades four through six, Henkle Middle serves grades seven and eight, and Columbia High School begins in ninth grade. Children change schools as full age cohorts, gradually bringing several towns and rural areas into one high-school community.

The Gorge enters learning through more than scenery. Elementary work has connected wildflowers and pollinators with Ice Age floods, the rain shadow, Indigenous knowledge and the ways people shape the environment. At Columbia High, agriculture, woodshop, art, music, drama, work-site learning and other applied courses give older students several ways to turn the region’s land, trades and creative culture into schoolwork.

The physical organization is scheduled to change in the years ahead. Voters approved a $77.8 million bond in February 2026 for a unified K–12 campus, with separate K–6 and 7–12 schools created through renovations and additions. An architectural firm was selected in April, placing the project in design with no change to daily operations yet.

Families entering 2026–27 still use Whitson, Stevenson Intermediate, Henkle and Columbia High in their current roles. The approved campus will eventually gather those stages more closely, while the present district continues to move students through four distinct schools across the White Salmon community.
