Vashon Island School District Calendar 2026-2027

Every Vashon High School graduate completes at least twenty-five hours of direct service for a nonprofit or approved community organization. Students choose projects connected to their interests and values, placing island farms, environmental groups, arts organizations, social services and public events inside the graduation experience.

Most students follow the island’s three-stage route through Chautauqua Elementary, McMurray Middle School and Vashon High School. Ferry travel separates local schooling from many mainland opportunities, so community partners carry unusual weight. Nature organizations, farms, artists, health providers and foundations help support field learning, performances, wellness work and enrichment within the island itself.

StudentLink adds a grades 9–12 independent-learning route with regular individual meetings, tutoring and small-group work; FamilyLink supports flexible K–12 learning. Whether a student attends a daily campus or builds a more individualized week, the island remains an extended classroom. The service requirement formalizes that relationship by asking every senior to contribute to the community that has helped sustain the school years.
