University Place School District Calendar 2027-2028

University Place students return to water-safety instruction at three different ages. Voter-supported programming provides swimming for every second-, fifth- and eighth-grader at the Curtis Aquatic Center. The repeated sequence turns one community facility into a districtwide classroom as students become increasingly independent around Puget Sound beaches, lakes and pools.

The school path is divided into four unusual age bands. Four primary schools serve kindergarten through grade four. Drum and Narrows View Intermediate receive grades five through seven, Curtis Junior High carries grades eight and nine, and Curtis Senior High begins with grade ten. Students repeatedly join larger cohorts before reaching the district’s one senior-high community.

The same 2026 operating levy that supports swimming also continues music, performing arts, activities and staff positions. These programs create links across the age centers: a child can move from primary school into intermediate enrichment, junior-high athletics and the district’s senior-high arts and activity system.

Voters also approved a construction bond in February 2026. Replacement of Chambers and Sunset primary schools is scheduled for fall 2030, while major Curtis High work is planned to open in fall 2031. Design and planning are current; those future buildings do not alter the 2026–27 K–4, 5–7, 8–9 and 10–12 progression.
