Union Gap School District Calendar 2026-2027

Union Gap has maintained an independent preschool-through-eighth-grade district for more than 150 years while the Yakima urban area has grown around it. One school carries children through the entire local path, and the district describes itself as a “familia of learners.” Sixth- through eighth-graders can join district athletics, while younger children, older siblings and staff continue to meet in the same campus community.

The school day can extend well beyond dismissal for K–5 families. The Champions program operates Monday through Friday until 6:30 p.m., combining homework help with STEAM projects, creative arts, physical activity and work on social-emotional skills, executive function and inquiry. Its emphasis on teamwork and belonging turns after-school care into another structured part of the district’s educational week.

Construction will remain visible during 2026–27. A voter-approved bond is funding a new gymnasium, kitchen expansion, security work, parking changes and additional playground space, with completion expected by the end of summer 2027. Students continue learning on the active campus while the project advances around them. After eighth grade, families enter a larger neighboring high-school system, making the move from one long P–8 community to an outside secondary route the district’s largest educational transition.
