Toppenish School District Calendar 2026-2027

Toppenish schools serve the city, nearby Buena and families living on the lands of the Yakama Nation. Many students grow up using Spanish and English alongside the cultural knowledge and contemporary presence of Yakama communities. Four elementary schools lead toward Toppenish Middle School and Toppenish High School, while CATS High School offers a smaller setting for students who need another pace or structure.

English-language development is part of ordinary instruction for a substantial share of students. The district integrates language learning with mathematics, science, literacy and career courses, and states that limited English proficiency cannot block access to its programs. Interpretation and translated information help adults take part in enrollment, conferences and special-service decisions without assigning formal communication to children.

Recent elementary work on the salmon life cycle brought Yakama Nation knowledge and local environmental relationships into all four elementary schools. Orange Shirt Day, Native Heritage activities and visits connected to the tribal aviary and bison range provide other current examples of cultural learning, while secondary programs extend into agriculture, health, business, STEM and skilled trades. These experiences do not form one separate “Native” track; they enter a multilingual public system serving a city and reservation community together.
