Tumwater School District Calendar 2026-2027

Tumwater School District serves roughly 6,500 students in thirteen schools across the city and the rural and residential areas south of Olympia. Six elementary schools feed Bush or Tumwater Middle School, followed by A. G. West Black Hills High School or Tumwater High School. Cascadia High School uses a smaller program for students who need more flexibility. The two comprehensive high schools anchor distinct communities while sharing districtwide arts, athletics and graduation expectations.

Their course menus also carry different local textures. Black Hills students can earn college credit through offerings such as plant biology, agriculture and natural resources, and media production. Tumwater High lists dual-credit opportunities in entrepreneurship, media arts, community design and architecture, American Sign Language and other academic fields. Visual arts begin in the elementary years, and band or orchestra becomes available during the upper-elementary transition before expanding in the secondary schools.

Seven Community Schools hubs address the practical conditions that can interrupt learning. Coordinators connect families with food, clothing, hygiene items, school supplies, immunizations, sports physicals, emergency housing, child care, employment and health services. These supports operate inside ordinary schools and reach families long before a student chooses a specialized high-school program.

New Market Skills Center adds a regional half-day layer for juniors and seniors from Tumwater and neighboring districts. Its programs use industry partners, college credit and credentials in fields ranging from culinary arts and medical assisting to art, animation and aviation. Participating students keep a home-high-school identity while dividing the day between comprehensive courses and concentrated technical training.
