Tahoma School District Calendar 2026-2027

Tahoma’s name carries a century of local geography. Students selected “TaHoMa” in 1926 for a shared high school serving Taylor, Hobart and Maple Valley; the name also draws on a Native regional name associated with Mount Rainier. The original 1926 high-school building still serves children as Tahoma Elementary, allowing a current elementary day to take place inside the district’s oldest campus.

The modern district reaches Maple Valley and parts of Ravensdale, Hobart, Black Diamond, Covington and Renton. Six elementary campuses lead into two middle schools before the district comes together at Tahoma High. More than sixty family languages now enter a system that began among three rural communities, and Tahoma High’s scale supports advanced academics, arts, athletics, college credit and more than fifty career and technical courses.

Local growth has not erased the district’s older connections to land and community work. Tahoma High students regularly volunteer at Elk Run Farm, which grows produce for South King County food banks. A student can begin in the 1926 flagship building, meet classmates from newer neighborhoods in middle school, and finish at a large high school while contributing to a farm serving families across the region. The district’s past survives as a working part of present-day education.
