Port Townsend School District Calendar 2026-2027

A Port Townsend seventh-grader can spend nearly two weeks building boats, rowing longboats and making maritime art at the Northwest Maritime Center. The experience belongs to a districtwide framework that uses the working waterfront as a source for science, history, design, literature and public problem-solving. Maritime learning appears across grade levels and subjects, reaching far beyond a single high-school elective.

Salish Coast Elementary, Blue Heron Middle School and Port Townsend High School form the ordinary progression. OCEAN K–12 offers a smaller choice route with family partnership, interdisciplinary study and its own maritime collaborations. Gardens, arts organizations, boatyards, museums and environmental groups allow students to learn with adults whose work is already rooted in the community.

The district's size makes those partners unusually visible. A young child may work in the Salish Coast garden; a middle-school student can spend sustained time on the water; an older student can connect a project with the port, arts community or marine trades. Classroom subjects repeatedly return to the question of how a coastal town lives with its environment and history.

Voters approved a $99.25 million bond in February 2026 to renovate the historic high school and create a permanent home for OCEAN. Project reporting and community design work were underway during 2026. The bond describes the next physical chapter, while students continue to use the present schools and the waterfront itself as places of study.
