166. Port Angeles School District

Port Angeles schools occupy a narrow strip between the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains. Five elementary schools serve kindergarten through sixth grade, students then meet at Stevens Middle School for grades seven and eight, and most continue to Port Angeles High School. Lincoln High School provides a smaller alternative setting. The district is both a city system and a regional center for families spread along the northern Olympic Peninsula.

Its relationship with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe enters classrooms and student support. Native education staff work with families, and Port Angeles High School's community garden stands in Lower Elwha Klallam territory. The garden includes native plants, raised beds, an orchard, greenhouse and outdoor teaching space. Native Studies students examine traditional plant uses and food sovereignty there, while science classes use the same site for soil, ecosystems and climate resilience.

The surrounding economy opens other paths. Port Angeles High offers technical and dual-credit study, and Lincoln High's Wildcat Café links hospitality learning with the Salish Sea and regional tourism. Arts, athletics and college planning use the city's role as a peninsula hub, while community partners provide places for work experience and mentoring.

Major facility work is active after voter approval of capital funding, including projects at Port Angeles High, Franklin Elementary and the middle-school level. Those plans are improving the district in stages; the operating 2026–27 path remains five K–6 schools, one common middle school and two high-school environments.
