Orting School District Calendar 2026-2027

Orting's two elementary communities lead into Orting Middle School and Orting High School in a valley town between the Carbon and Puyallup rivers. The district also serves portions of the surrounding Bonney Lake and Graham areas. Rapid housing growth has placed sustained pressure on boundaries, buses, classrooms and long-range facilities, while current families still move through Orting Elementary or Ptarmigan Ridge and then one shared middle- and high-school route.

Current programs already give the ordinary high-school week a strong local texture. Agriculture and natural-resources courses range from greenhouse science and animal science to wildlife and forestry. Culinary arts, digital media, computer science and health-science courses add other applied fields, and many classes can carry college credit through university or technical-college partnerships. Juniors and seniors may divide the day between Orting High and Pierce County Skills Center, with district transportation connecting the two settings.

Public safety has a different scale here. During a Mount Rainier lahar exercise, students and staff leave the valley floor on foot and follow designated routes toward higher ground. The 2026 regional drill brought schools and community facilities into one coordinated evacuation. Repeated practice makes shoes, clothing, family reunification and a walk of roughly two miles part of school preparation.

Voters have approved a replacement elementary school and a new high-school career and technical wing. As of August 2026, those projects remained in design, contracting and early delivery. The future facilities will expand a district whose students are already learning in greenhouses, college-credit classrooms and regional skills programs while the existing schools remain in operation.
