Oak Harbor Public Schools Calendar 2026-2027

Oak Harbor Public Schools serves the largest community on Whidbey Island and lives in constant relationship with Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. About forty percent of students are military-connected. Five elementary schools feed Oak Harbor Intermediate School, North Whidbey Middle School and Oak Harbor High School, giving military and civilian families one shared progression through the city.

A student may arrive midway through the year after attending school in another state or country. School liaisons, counselors and Military & Family Life staff help with records, course placement, activities, deployment stress and reunification. The district's Purple Star recognition reflects practices built around that mobility. Federal Impact Aid also matters because substantial federal property cannot support local schools through ordinary property taxes in the same way as private land.

Career education fits the island's aviation and technical economy. Engineering, manufacturing, health and other CTE pathways connect students with tools, design, teamwork and further training. In 2026, Oak Harbor High students won the national Make48 competition through SkillsUSA, demonstrating how fabrication and problem solving can move from the school shop to a national stage.

The district's larger identity remains One Oak Harbor: long-established island households and families arriving through military service share one high school, one activity community and a support system designed for frequent change.
