Mercer Island School District Calendar 2026-2027

Mercer Island’s four elementary attendance areas reunite at Islander Middle School, then remain together at Mercer Island High School from ninth grade. The district’s compact geography supports extensive arts, athletics, Advanced Placement, world languages and student organizations within a shared high-school community.

Crest Learning Center gives some high-school students a smaller, project-centered setting. Admission requires an additional program decision, and students work with advisors in interdisciplinary classes while remaining connected to Mercer Island High School. Many take selected MIHS courses or participate in its activities, and graduates earn the MIHS diploma. Greenhouses, horticulture, aquaponics, marine science and community projects give Crest an applied character. Crest students remain in the MIHS diploma and activity community even as their daily setting becomes smaller and more applied.

Other options change individual parts of the schedule. MI Online combines asynchronous coursework with regular teacher contact and in-person check-ins. The Career Pathways Hub and WANIC programs connect students to regional training in technology, health care, engineering, media and skilled trades. Mercer Island’s secondary system keeps one comprehensive high-school identity while learning can occur in several places: the main campus, Crest, online courses, college classrooms and regional career sites.
