98. Lake Stevens School District

Lake Stevens has one of Washington’s more distinctive secondary grade ladders. Seven elementary schools serve kindergarten through fifth grade. North Lake and Lake Stevens middle schools then take grades six and seven, Cavelero Mid High receives every eighth- and ninth-grader, and Lake Stevens High School serves grades ten through twelve. Students make two districtwide transitions after elementary school, with ninth-grade credits beginning at Cavelero before the move to the high-school campus.

That structure lets career exploration start before students reach Lake Stevens High. Career and technical courses are available from the middle grades, then expand into engineering, health sciences, business, computer science, skilled trades and other pathways. Dual-credit options allow some high-school work to count toward college or industry preparation. HomeLink offers a separate K–8 parent-partnership route in which families conduct substantial learning at home with district plans, teacher contact and selected onsite opportunities.

Growth is adding another layer to the district, but the timing matters. An eighth elementary school is under construction with an estimated 2027–28 opening. It is expected to serve Glenwood students first, while a boundary committee later reviews elementary attendance areas. The project does not alter the 2026–27 feeder. Current families still use the seven-elementary, 6–7 middle, 8–9 mid-high and 10–12 high-school sequence, a progression that gives each secondary campus a narrowly defined age community.
