Ferndale School District Calendar 2026-2027

Ferndale School District serves the city of Ferndale and a broad stretch of northern Whatcom County where farms, growing subdivisions and the lands of the Lummi Nation meet. Six elementary schools feed Horizon or Vista Middle School, and the regular route converges at Ferndale High School. The schools are spread across communities with different distances and histories, but the high school becomes a shared center for athletics, arts, graduation and postsecondary planning.

The course program carries the surrounding region into the classroom. Ferndale High science includes environmental study, agriculture, horticulture, floral design, wildlife and “Forests and Society,” alongside chemistry, physics and advanced courses. World-language study includes Spanish, French and Lummi, giving a Native language a formal place in the secondary curriculum. English courses include multicultural literature and university-credit options, while career and technical classes are organized around industry standards and learning through practical work.

Students can extend the local program through Running Start, CTE dual credit and partnerships with Whatcom institutions. Ferndale Family Partnership supports K–8 families who combine home instruction with district planning and classes, and Open Doors serves older students returning to diploma or credential work. These routes sit beside a conventional school system whose identity comes from northern Whatcom itself: agricultural and forest landscapes, tribal and immigrant communities, one comprehensive high school and a curriculum broad enough to connect all of them.
