57. Edmonds School District

Edmonds School District links five cities—Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Woodway—with nearby unincorporated communities across southwest Snohomish County. More than twenty thousand students attend a network that begins with neighborhood K–6 schools, continues through grades 7–8 middle schools and reaches four comprehensive high schools. A family may experience a waterfront community, an urbanizing corridor or a quieter residential area while remaining inside the same district.

Language diversity is part of ordinary school life. More than four thousand students receive multilingual services, and Spanish-English dual-language education is growing through the elementary grades. Interpreters, family resources and community partnerships help parents take part in school decisions across many home languages. The district recognizes that these schools occupy Coast Salish homelands; Native education and community work give that relationship an ongoing place.

The four comprehensive high schools share core academic and activity opportunities while developing specialized strengths. Edmonds-Woodway houses International Baccalaureate and design/CAD work; Lynnwood is a center for applied engineering and manufacturing; Meadowdale hosts automotive technology and health-care professions; Mountlake Terrace supports carpentry and building construction. Students can travel within the district for these CTE programs. Students can also earn postsecondary credit through campus-based college courses, CTE articulation and Running Start.

Madrona and Maplewood provide K–8 cooperative alternatives, Edmonds Heights supports K–12 home-centered learning, and Scriber Lake offers a smaller high-school community. These options sit inside a large, multilingual district whose ordinary strength is breadth: local elementary relationships, citywide secondary resources, specialized programs shared across campuses and family support adapted to very different communities.
