39. Columbia School District No. 206

Columbia School District No. 206 operates one PK–12 school community in Hunters, bringing the elementary, junior-high and high-school years together at a single rural site. The district acknowledges the traditional and sacred homelands of the Spokane Tribe and the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. Community 4-H activities, fair preparation, athletics and school events keep the campus connected to families whose public life extends well beyond a conventional school day.

Indigenous education is part of district governance as well as curriculum. Tribal officials, Native families and the district consult on policies and programs, creating a formal route for community knowledge and priorities to enter school decisions. Students of different ages also learn directly from one another. Older participants in highly capable work introduce Ozobot robotics to K–6 classrooms, turning a small enrollment into an opportunity for mentoring across grades.

Technical and advanced study widen the secondary program. District frameworks document work in programming, construction, financial mathematics, office technology, residential carpentry and sustainable design. River Mile research, mathematics competition, college-credit courses and Running Start connect Hunters students with larger academic networks. One campus can hold several kinds of movement at once: younger students learning from older peers, Native families influencing district work, and high-school students reaching technical or college study without losing their daily place in Hunters.
