Anacortes School District Calendar 2026-2027

Fidalgo Island gives Anacortes schools a setting shaped by shoreline, industry, tribal history and a strong local arts community. Children begin at Fidalgo, Island View or Mount Erie Elementary, then meet at Anacortes Middle School and continue to Anacortes High School. The elementary assignment process is unusually flexible. Principals balance classroom space, siblings, family preferences and transportation each summer, so the first placement grows from both family circumstances and the needs of the three school communities.

The arts are woven through the district more deeply than a single elective list suggests. Artist-in-school work, local cultural organizations, the Museum of Northwest Art, poetry and performance partnerships bring practicing artists into student learning. At the high school, visual art, ceramics, photography, bands, choirs and drama sit beside a substantial technical program. Students can move through metals, robotics, engineering and architectural design, digital media, computer science, marketing, personal finance and sports medicine.

Anacortes also uses the wider region as a classroom. Northwest Career and Technical Academy gives high-school students access to specialized professional training and college credit, while outdoor and summer partnerships have connected students with the Samish Indian Nation, Deception Pass State Park, local forest advocates and dance organizations. Cap Sante High School provides a smaller secondary option for students who need a different setting. The school day can reach from an island classroom to an art museum, a state park, a technical lab or a community performance space.
