Steilacoom Historical School District Calendar 2026-2027

Established in 1854, Steilacoom Historical School District No. 1 is Pierce County’s oldest organized school district. Its present boundary is unusually varied, serving the Town of Steilacoom, the City of DuPont, Anderson and Ketron islands, portions of Lakewood and nearby unincorporated areas. Children can begin in a remote island school, a military-connected DuPont neighborhood or the historic town and still enter one shared district progression.

Anderson Island Elementary serves transitional kindergarten through grade three in a remote setting. Cherrydale and Chloe Clark serve the same early-grade range on the mainland, Saltar’s Point receives grades four and five, Pioneer Middle in DuPont serves every sixth- through eighth-grader, and Steilacoom High begins in ninth grade. The common intermediate and middle-school stages steadily bring the district’s separate communities together.

Military family support is central because DuPont lies beside Joint Base Lewis-McChord and student mobility can be high. Staff help with records, transitions and continuity when families move or deploy. The district’s historical name describes only one layer of its identity. Daily school life joins an old Puget Sound town, a growing military community and an island classroom through a carefully staged set of common schools.
