Cle Elum-Roslyn School District Calendar 2026-2027

Snow, wildfire smoke, outdoor recreation and rapid residential growth all enter the school year in the upper Kittitas Valley. Cle Elum and Roslyn also carry histories of coal mining, railroads and forestry, giving the district a mountain-community identity that reaches beyond tourism.

Cle Elum-Roslyn Elementary, Walter Strom Middle School and Cle Elum-Roslyn High School form the regular route; Swiftwater Learning Center provides a smaller secondary setting. Students grow up within a compact system, yet buses and family life extend through communities whose weather and road conditions can differ sharply.

The landscape functions as an educational resource as well as an operating challenge. Outdoor learning and service connect students with forests, trails and waterways. At the high school, construction courses take students through foundations, framing, roofing, siding and finish carpentry. Career planning presents enrollment, enlistment and employment as parallel destinations, supported by apprenticeships, trade schools, college information, scholarships and local jobs. FFA, FBLA, FCCLA, music, athletics and service clubs give the secondary schools a broad civic life.

A combined grades 7–12 campus remains part of long-range facilities planning, not the current 2026–27 structure. Design work and public discussion have not displaced Walter Strom’s grades 6–8 role. For now, four operating schools continue to combine practical work, outdoor space and community partnerships while the district plans for future growth.
