Cheney Public Schools Calendar 2026-2027

Cheney Public Schools spans about 380 square miles across the City of Cheney, Airway Heights and the rural West Plains. More than five thousand students move through five elementary schools, Cheney or Westwood Middle School and Cheney High School, the district’s only comprehensive high school. The route brings together university-town families, households connected to Fairchild Air Force Base, rural communities and neighborhoods growing around new industrial and residential development.

Growth is most visible in Airway Heights. A new elementary school is scheduled to open in fall 2027, and attendance boundaries were adopted in 2026 so families have advance notice of the coming change. The project does not alter 2026–27 assignments. It prepares the district for a community whose school-age population and housing patterns are expanding faster than the older West Plains map can absorb.

Cheney High becomes the common meeting place for students whose elementary lives may have looked very different. Academics, athletics, performances, clubs and postsecondary planning operate at a scale supported by the full district. Inclusionary preschool creates an earlier entry point, while activity buses and extensive co-curricular programs help students from distant parts of the boundary take part after the regular day.

Learning options add flexibility around that ordinary system. HomeWorks combines home instruction with district classes and events; WIN Academy blends online work with recurring in-person support; Three Springs High School provides a smaller secondary setting. Families can reorganize where and how learning occurs while remaining connected to a district managing two simultaneous realities—long rural distances and rapid growth near Spokane.
