Castle Rock School District Calendar 2027-2028

Families from Castle Rock, Vader, Ryderwood and nearby rural communities share one southern Cowlitz County school system. The youngest children attend a common elementary building organized as Castle Rock Primary for grades K–2 and Castle Rock Intermediate for grades 3–5. Middle and high school then bring the wider district together, making activities and public events visible across several towns.

Career learning at Castle Rock High has a strong hands-on character. Welding, woods and construction sit beside animal science, floriculture, greenhouse management, AutoCAD, practical finance and computer applications. Plant work, shop projects and agricultural safety activities connect courses with farms, trades and employers. Music, athletics and student leadership give the high school another public role.

Students also carry projects into the community through cleanup, local-history work and items made for residents. Rocket Virtual Academy gives resident high-school students an online route while preserving district teachers and graduation expectations. The district’s unusual split primary/intermediate building matters, but it is only the beginning of the story: Castle Rock’s common secondary schools become meeting places for technical work, arts, athletics and civic participation across the surrounding communities.
