Lake Chelan School District Calendar 2026-2027

Following Lake Chelan northward takes the district from town campuses to one of Washington’s most isolated public schools. Most students follow a town-based route through Morgen Owings Elementary School, Chelan Middle School and Chelan High School. Those campuses serve the largest concentration of families and provide the district’s comprehensive programs, athletics, arts and graduation pathway.

Chelan School of Innovation gives secondary students a smaller, interest-driven option. Its Big Picture Learning approach organizes work around advising, exhibitions, community mentors, job shadows and internships. Students still complete district graduation requirements, but projects and experiences outside a conventional classroom can become central evidence of learning. The program makes local businesses and community organizations part of the school day.

Farther up Lake Chelan, Holden Village Community School operates under Washington’s remote-and-necessary provisions. A certificated teacher and classroom aide serve the village’s K–8 students in a setting separated from town by geography and seasonal transportation. Staffing, supplies, family communication and access to services have to be planned around that isolation. Holden functions as a fully operating district school with its own daily program.

These three settings reveal the unusual scale of Lake Chelan. One district manages a conventional town feeder, a choice-based secondary program built around community work, and a remote elementary school in an isolated village. The common thread is local access: students can remain connected to public education whether their daily route begins in Chelan, at a community internship or far up the lake at Holden.
